The Korean Baptist Convention has founded to share a passion for the Great Commission of Jesus Christ and the Kingdom of God, and practise the Gospel in our lives according to the Word of God with a commitment to Baptist principles of faith and practice. The KBC has 11 organizations to achieve the Mission of Our Lord with a cooperative spirit, and to network, mobilize Korean Baptist Christians and churches for effective missions in the name of Christ.

An independent missionary, Malcolm C. Fenwick arrived at the Korea in 1889, which was the beginning of the history of the Korean Baptist Church.

The KBC had suffered by the Japanese Imperial Government and the Korean War.

During the Korean War, the KBC began the relationship with the Southern Baptist Convention. It has been a great stepping-stone for the growth of the KBC, and the KBC has been working hard to become a great mission oriented denomination to the Korean people.

In 1999, about 100,000 members of the Korean Baptist churches celebrated the 110th anniversary at the Olympic Stadium with the New Millenium. And Dr.Billy Kim of the Suwon Central Baptist Church in Suwon, Korea was elected as the President of the BWA in Sydney, Australia on January,2000. The Korean Baptist is growing with the churches in the word.

***The Korean Baptist Church History

The beginning of the Korean Baptist churches started with the mission by a Canadian independent missionary, Malcolm C.Fenwick on December 8,1889.

Even though he didn't have a formal theological education, Mr.Fenwick was a "faith missionary" with his personal spiritual experience. After he did through the theological education, Mr.Fenwick returned to Korea to train the Korean church leaders in evangelism.
In the beginning, two Korean Baptist churches established at Kang Gyeong and Gond Joo in 1900.

Then, Mr.Fenwick expanded his ministry from the north: Wonsan,to the southern part of korea:
Chugcheong-do, Chenra-do and Gyeongsnag-do,and the total number of Baptist churches was thirty one.
He organized the Korean Christian Convention with 46 associations on October 6,1906. It was a fruit of Commission of Jesus Chirst, Our Lord.

The Korean Christian Convention had changed its name to the Dong-A(Iiterally, 'East Asia')Christian Convention in 1921 because the Japanese did not allow to use that name, "Korean". Futhermore the "Dong-A" included the missionary vision to the Northeastern part of Asia.

However, the Japanese ordered to close down the Dong-A Christian Convention on May 10,1944. At that time, it had 400 Baptist churches with 26 associations in Korean peninsular and Manjuria. After the liberation from the Japanese Imperial, the Dong-A Christian Convention made a historic mission agreement with the Korea Baptist Mission of the Southern Baptist Convention of USA.

This new relationship with the Korea Baptist Mission made the opportunity for the Korean Baptist
churches to expand her mission for the Kingdom of God. It produced several fruits such as the Wallace Memorial Baptist Hospital, Korea Baptist Church Development Board and the Baptist Seminary.

The Korea Baptist Convention become a new name of the Korean Baptist Churches since 1955.

The Korea-American Evangelical crusades in 1970s gave the Korean Baptist churches the opportunity to grow both in quality and in quantity. The CDB published the training materials for lay-leaders as well as the new church member, which was a great help for the churches.
In spite of difficulties and sufferings, the Korea Baptist Convention has grown 2,500 congregations with 106 associations.
The Capital Baptist Seminary has founded to educate the leaders in Seoul area in 1981. The Annuity Board also founded for the retied pastors in 1990.
The Women's Mission Union organized in 1954, and Men's Mission Union did in 1982.
